科学研究： 

研究领域：

长期致力于鱼类粘孢子虫及鱼类寄生虫的其他类群的研究。

主要学术成就：

1. 赵元莙迄今发现并命名了淡水鱼类寄生粘孢子虫59新种，单殖吸虫29新种，纤毛虫13新种，鞭毛虫4新种；海洋粘孢子虫47新种。共计发表鱼类寄生虫新种120余种。

2. 先后对黄渤海和东海的海洋鱼类粘孢子及其病害进行了较为系统的的研究，并建立海洋鱼类寄生粘孢虫47新种，33新组合，报道了近20种国内新记录；还研究了双壳目粘孢子虫系统演化，提出将目前已知的双壳目的53属归入4个亚目中，厘定了双目粘孢子虫新的分类安排；还对世界海洋鱼类粘孢子虫的40个属及569个种的寄生及寄生部位，地理分布进行了全面的清理。该研究的系列成果正在国内外重要学术刊物上陆续发表。

3. 近10年来，在国家自然科学基金项目“长江中上游游走类纤毛虫的分类学与系统学研究”为代表的项目资助下，带领研究团队对淡水鱼类寄生车轮虫的分类学混乱、不实正在进行着清理性研究，已分类鉴定40种（含13新种）。相关研究结果在国内外重要学术刊物发表论文10余篇；获得国内外同行的高度评价。2005.7受12th 国际原生动物学大会组委会邀请担任大会的“原生动物多样性及系统学”专题主持人。2006.7受6th 亚太纤毛虫国际会议组委会邀请担任大会的“纤毛虫原生动物分类学与系统学”专题主持人。

4. 主研或主持了20多项课题的研究，如中国科学院研究基金、国家自然科学基金及四川省高教局专项经费联合资助的“四川省鱼类寄生粘孢子虫的研究”，“四川省鱼类寄生单殖吸虫的研究”，国家自然科学基金资助的“四川省鱼类寄生虫及寄生虫病的研究”，山东省优秀青年科学家基金资助的“海洋寄生原生动物的研究”，“长江学者奖励计划”，教育部骨干教师资助项目等课题。主持完成的项目有国家自然科学基金项目“东南沿海鱼类寄生粘孢子虫分类学与系统学研究（No. 30570221）”，“海洋鱼类寄生粘孢子虫的分类学与动物地理学研究（No. 30370172）”；有重庆市自然科学基金重点项目“水生动物外来入侵病原虫生物学研究与寄生原虫库的程序性建设研究”；重庆市自然科学基金项目“几种粘孢子虫DNA序列结构的测定及其系统地位分析（No. kj050811）”和“水生动物病原虫生物学研究与程序性病原虫库的建设研究”；还有重庆市教委科研基金资助的“双壳目粘孢子虫SSUrDNA序列结构的测定研究（No. 040811）”等项目。参与了中国动物志粘孢子虫纲（册/卷）和中国动物志单殖吸虫纲（册/卷）（中国动物志系列）的编写，不仅对我国四川、新疆、贵州等地的水系（淡水）中鱼类寄生粘孢子虫和鱼类寄生单殖吸虫有深入系统的研究，而且对我国海洋鱼类寄生粘孢子虫正在进行了系统的研究。填补了我国海洋鱼类寄生粘孢子虫研究的空白。新近还进行着鱼类寄生粘孢子虫DNA分子标记研究。相关研究结果在国内外重要学术刊物发表或待发表；获得国内外同行的高度评价。
